Explorama Event Information
The Explorama program has been developed for the problem-solving, creative, intellectual child. Explorama is presented by Kids College Queensland and made possible with the generous support of the University of Queensland and University of the Sunshine Coast.
Typically, students who attend Explorama have a love of learning and are highly curious and inquisitive young people who enjoy challenges and exploring their passions and interests. Our workshops are FUN and EXCITING. The aim is to provide students with the opportunity to work with other like-minded children and immerse themselves in a full-day of critical thinking, problem solving and creativity. We are committed to delivering the highest quality workshops, while providing students with the opportunity to explore their potential and reach for the stars.
How to get involved in Explorama?
Parents: If you believe your child displays a love of learning, is highly curious and inquisitive, is capable of working in a group of high-achieving students, and has interests and talents to extend their learning opportunities in any of our workshops, then Explorama is for them.
Schools: Schools are encouraged to nominate students to participate in Explorama and may use the following as a guide when nominating students. The student is identified Gifted and Talented, a member of the school’s Enrichment / Extension programs, specific talents and strong abilities in certain areas, students who work in the top English and Maths ability groups, students who have special interests in any of the course topics and can work at a high standard.
Student Expectations: Children who attend Explorama are expected at all times to act appropriately, be respectful and work cooperatively with others, be an active listener and enjoy sharing their thoughts, knowledge and ideas.
Explorama, when and where?
Explorama is conducted at the University of Queensland or the University of the Sunshine Coast and is normally held on a Saturday or Sunday, 8:45-3pm.
University of the Sunshine Coast. Sippy Downs campus.
University of Queensland, St Lucia campus.
Parents with students are advised to go directly to the student’s allocated room by 8.45am to wait to be signed-in by the course leader. All courses have a presentation starting at approximately 2.45pm. Collection of students is by 3pm at the room. Parents are asked to sign-out the student before afternoon departure.
There are various workshops available at Explorama. Children will have the opportunity to attend one (1) workshop on the day. Children may only be nominated for workshops that correspond with the year level they are in at school. Each workshop outline states the appropriate year level that the course is designed for. Each workshop caters for approximately 15 – 25 students. The Explorama event program does vary due to presenter availability.
Workshop Confirmation and Notifications
Explorama participants will receive an email notification confirming their workshop place one week before the event. This email will provide all details required for the day including the room and building number, what to bring, what to wear, times and a link to Google maps.

How to Register?
After choosing your preference for your child from the workshop page click on the Eventbrite register button and you will be taken to the Eventbrite page to enter the student’s details and complete the transaction.

The cost for a workshop registration per student varies for each event. This amount is shown on Eventbrite. The cost per registration includes GST & Eventbrite ticket fees and charges.
Fees cover all workshop tuition, equipment, resources and associated costs. Payments are made via the Eventbrite ticketing system. Eventbrite accepts most major credit cards. Unfortunately, we are unable to process applications & payments over the phone.
Refunds, minus an administration fee of $10.00 will be available before registration closes (generally 7 days before the event).
After these dates no refunds can be issued unless a medical certificate is received. Credits and ticket transfers will not be issued for non-attendance.
A limited number of part scholarships are available for people who are experiencing financial hardship.
Families with more than one child attending our events are eligible for a 10% discount. Please contact us so we can arrange a discounted registration.
Will my child receive a place?
Each workshop has a limited amount of places and will be allocated on a first-come first-served basis. These events are always extremely popular so it is advised to register online quickly to guarantee your position in the workshop of your choice! Applications alone do not reserve a place in a workshop.Please note – applications without payment will not be processed until payment is received.
What to bring?
Meals – Meals are not provided. Students will need to bring their own drinks, morning tea and lunch for the day. Please do not bring foods containing nut or nut products.
Clothing – Students are advised to wear casual, comfortable clothing , enclosed footwear & bring a hat.
Equipment – Students are advised to bring a pencil case with scissors, glue etc. Some courses require a USB. For art course please bring an old shirt of art smock.
Each child participating in EXPLORAMA will receive a workshop certificate of participation presented to them by the facilitator at the conclusion of the workshop.
Medical / Emergency Information
Please take extra care when filling in this section of the registration form. It is important that you list any allergies, dietary requirements, access needs or medication on your child’s registration form. It is essential that we are aware of these requirements so that the course leaders can be properly informed and prepared. Please contact the Kids College Directors to check the suitability of a workshop for your child if they have certain medical conditions that may conflict with a course. Staff, are First Aid qualified and a First Aid trained person/s will be present on the day to assist with any First Aid requirements. If your child requires certain medication such as a puffer or Epipen, they must bring it with them on the day.
**Please note parents are not required to stay. However, if necessary, you may touch base with your child during break times. Only under extenuating circumstances and prior approval may parents be permitted to be in the classroom once a course begins.
The children involved in the day will be supervised at all times by the workshop leaders both in workshop times and break times. During break times children are supervised in designated areas. Parents are asked not to take children away from the supervised area before notifying the event organisers.
